Letter, 1916, July 15, La Saleatte, Ontario [to] Mr. [Edwin] Markham, [Staten Island] / Jos. Leslie. 1917.

Is upset with Markham that he never anweres her letters. Asks him if he does not follow the Golden Rule "Do others lest they do you". Goes on to say that he can't be trusted any longer and gives him somewhat a lecture on her life's philosophy.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
